The Results Method (What)
The Results Method is a set of actions designed to achieve results today while also ensuring results in the distant future.
Rationale
• Addictive: It feels great.
• Produces results: today, this week, and in the long term.
• Applicable to learning, projects, coding, and more.
• Effective especially for projects or problems that feel overwhelming or even impossible.
Results Method (How)**
Framework
Here are the main actions of the Results Method:
Repetitions: While pursuing a desired results-set (a goal state), repeat the following actions consistently:
Long-Term Results: Identify the best long-term results or improve your current set as needed.
Short-Term Results: Break down the long-term results into actionable steps to identify the results you want to achieve today.
Execution: Accomplish the next short-term results.
Reflective Thinking:
Identify the rewards you’re gaining.
Determine the next steps.
Pinpoint and write down
Strengths: Actions that were effective and should continue.
Improvements: New actions you can and will take today to address challenges.
Insights: Useful facts or realizations.
Tips
Results Matter: The core of the method is a drive or passion for achieving results.
Essence: The essence of the method is determining the most useful next actions. “Useful” means steps that move you closer to the desirable future outlined in your goal state (long-term results).
Engagement: If you are not feeling motivated and engaged, reflect on and improve your application of the method. This is common.
Consistent Results: If you are not achieving results consistently (today, this week, etc.), reflect on and refine your use of the method. This is also common.
Balance: Balance structure of the method with flexibility. Change it on the fly when this is dictated.
Feeling Overwhelmed: This is another indicator to reflect on and refine your use of the method. The method should consistently lead you to “All I have to do is take these next steps,” so that you can focus on the present moment with zero worries about the future because you know that small steps always work and they are required; that is, you know you are on the right path.
