Roles in Critical Thinking

Role: A role is a part that that an actor plays.

Actor: An actor refers to a person or group.

Roles in CT: In critical thinking (CT), there are two parts that actors play.

1. Arguer: This is an actor who is making a claim or reaching a conclusion.

2. Audience: This is an actor who is receiving a message that is a claim.

Rationale: The actor and audience roles are useful for communicating about CT.
