Life Balance

Definition

Life balance is achieved by an actor when time, energy, and resources are aligned with what matters the the most and the actor reaps the associated rewards: life purpose, peace of mind, satisfaction, and so forth.

Examples

  1. LM continually reflects on what is most important. She has a prioritized list of roles and associated actions that she reviews and acts on daily. She feels like her life’s work is totally aligned with what she was put on earth to do.

  2. The people who make up Company AFE continually reflects on what is most important to their group. They have a prioritized list of roles and associated actions that they review and act on daily. The end result is that the company is achieving their purpose and doing this well.

  3. The Smith family have a strong sense what matters the most to them. They have a prioritized list of roles and associated actions that they review and act on daily. The end result is they work together and play together wonderfully.

Rationale

The rationale for balance are subjective. My rationale are:

  1. Achieve your life purpose. Do what you were put on earth to do.

  2. Life energy and effort are aligned with what matters the most.

  3. Get peace of mind. Eliminate mental anguish.

  4. What is most important is what gets done.

  5. Eliminate actions and the associated mental anguish associated with things that don’t make the priority cut list.

  6. In the context of a group, get people working together for a common purpose.

Keep in mind that each person and group can and should have their own reasons for balance.

How to Achieve Balance

  1. Mindset. Decide that balance can and should be achieved. Prioritize this appropriately. Decide that purpose in life (for a person or a group) can and should be achieved. Decide that things should be written down and reviewed. Believe in growth. Decide that you can and should have the best life possible.

  2. Roles. Figure out everything that matters. Group these into categories (cats). Each category is called a role. Limit the roles to a small number. I use about five. Write the roles down. Note, a given role can and should be broken down in its own categories.

  3. Aspirations. For each role, identify what you aspire to the most; that is, your most important aspiration and write this down.

  4. Actions. Within each role, write down the actions you’ll take today or in the current week. Spend 99% of more of your time taking these actions.

  5. Review. On a daily basis, review, improve, and update your mindset, roles, aspirations, and actions.
